The Liberal Arts Centre transforms online education by focusing on human judgment and discussion-driven courses in philosophy, literature, and politics. We emphasise thinking together over watching videos. Our courses are available free of cost to everyone.
Real learning happens when people challenge each other — live, in real time. Not content consumed alone, but argument, disagreement, and dialogue with others.
Education Requires Encounter.
Learning is not content consumed alone. It is argument, disagreement, and dialogue with others — live, in real time.
Cultivating Judgment.
In an age of AI, the ability to think, weigh, and decide remains distinctly human. Our curriculum, rooted in philosophy, literature, and politics, develops exactly that.
Small by Design.
Each course admits 18 candidates, ensuring every participant is known, heard, and challenged.
We offer both in-person and online courses in core subjects across the social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences. Each course is clearly marked as 'Online' or 'In-Person' so you can easily identify the format.
Our courses are open to all adults (18 years and above).
No, we are not a UGC-recognised institution, and we do not offer degree programmes. The Liberal Arts Centre is designed as a space for serious learning outside the conventional degree framework. We issue certificates of completion to participants who fulfil the course requirements.
No prior specialised training is required. The rationale behind The Liberal Arts Centre is to offer foundational education in core subjects to anyone willing to learn. While some subjects may initially seem challenging, our faculty and course design are structured to support learners from diverse backgrounds. If you remain committed and complete the course, you can expect to be substantially intellectually enriched, regardless of where you began.
Most classes are scheduled on weekends. If a course is offered on weekdays, this will be clearly mentioned on the course page.
Lectures are typically 1.5 hours long. Some courses may follow a different format; please check the specific course page for details.
Most courses assign weekly readings of approximately 15–20 pages. In total, you should expect to devote about 3–4 hours per week outside class.
Most courses require a short weekly assignment. Typically, this involves writing up to 150 words, posting it on a shared platform, and commenting on each other's work. This should take no more than one hour per week.
In the final week of most courses, participants present their work in a concluding session called the Final Symposium. All participants present their work to one another in the presence of the faculty. You may be required to submit a short paper (approximately 1,000 words) for this presentation. Please refer to the specific course page for details.
Participants are expected to: attend classes regularly, keep their video on during online sessions (passive participation is not permitted), complete assigned readings, submit weekly 150-word assignments, and in most courses, write a 1,000-word paper and present it during the Final Symposium. Active participation is central to the ethos of The Liberal Arts Centre.
Yes. Most required readings will be provided by the course instructor.
We offer a limited number of bursaries each semester. To apply, please write to us at theliberalartcentre@gmail.com with the following: a brief educational history and copies of your high school and college certificates. Decisions are made based on the information provided.
Fees will be refunded only in the following cases: The Liberal Arts Centre is unable to offer the course; the faculty member is unable to conduct or complete the course due to serious health or other unavoidable reasons, and a suitable replacement cannot be provided (decisions regarding replacement faculty rest solely with The Liberal Arts Centre); or a participant has accidentally made a duplicate payment. Minor changes to the course schedule do not qualify for refunds. Fees will not be refunded for any other reason.
Yes. Certification is awarded only if a participant: attends at least 80% of classes, submits all required assignments, and adheres to the norms and expectations of the programme. We take our certification process seriously.
Yes. We believe that online discussions improve significantly when participants are visible to one another. Keeping your video on is therefore mandatory during all online sessions. Our class size is limited to 18 participants to ensure meaningful engagement. If participants are not visible, this purpose is undermined. Failure to comply may result in removal from the programme or denial of a completion certificate, at the faculty's recommendation.
